- JOINT UNIVERSITIES PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS BOARD
JUPEB is an A level programme that is accepted and recognized and it is moderated by the University of Lagos and it has various coordinating bodies in several tertiary institutions and study centres in Nigeria.
JUPEB is only for candidates with O’level results or awaiting results who are unable to secure direct admission using JAMB to Nigerian Universities.
With JUPEB, you can gain admission into the university without JAMB.
The federal government however approves JUPEB as an avenue to secure admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria and it is certified by the Nigerian University Commission as an A level programme.
JAMB also, recognizes JUPEB program and recognizes it as an alternative for university admission.
You are guaranteed of a secure admission if you meet the required mark for your preferred course and institution.
How JUPEB Works
Prospective candidates for JUPEB are expected to select any three JUPEB subject combination that is synonymous with their preferred course in the university either Science, Art or Social Science courses.
Every candidate would be lectured for a specific period of time and would afterwards sit for their final examination in accredited centres and the certificate from JUPEB can be utilized to secure admission via direct entry into 200 level in any Nigerian tertiary institution.
Eligibility & Qualification of JUPEB
ELIGIBILITY:
For you to be eligible to take the examination leading to the award of IJMB D.E certificate; you must have gone through an intense training of academic work in three subjects and general studies that is related to your proposed course of study in the university.
- Every candidate must register for 12 courses; six each semester and a general study course and they must and sit for examinations and satisfy the board in the three subjects including general study course that is applicable to their proposed course of study in any Nigerian university.
- students upon completion of the programme will be issued certificates based on their individual level of performance which bear Letter Grades of A, B, C, D, E or F in each of the three subjects and General Studies Paper.
- to gain admission into any university, each candidate, in addition to passing the prescribed JUPEB examinations for getting the Direct Entry Certificates, must also satisfy all other conditions as agreed by your choice of university.
- The general Studies for courses in each University Faculty will be based on relevant General courses which will be suggested for that Faculty by each university.
ENTRY QUALIFICATION:
Any candidate seeking to register for IJMB must have a minimum of five credits in not more than two sittings in at least five subjects that is applicable to the candidate which includes English Language and Mathematics and candidates awaiting results can also apply.
JUPEB Grading System
The institution conducts a mock exam for students that is forwarded to the board and this form the total score of 30% in each subject and the remaining 70% is for board’s exams. JUPEB results are graded like Cambridge/a level results
EXCELLENT – A =5 point
VERY GOOD – B. =4 point
GOOD. – C. = 3 point
FAIR. – D. = 2 point
PASS. – E. = 1 point
POOR. – F.= 0 point
Below is an example of a student with combination of subjects such as literature, government and History with grades
Literature – A = 5 Points
Government – B = 4 Points
History – C = 3 Points
Total = 12 + 1 (Additional Points)
There is however no grade F in the JUPEB result and this make them award an additional one point to the result.
Any student that has the above grade which sums up to a total of 13points can be sure of admission to study his/her desired course.
JUPEB LEGIBILITY / UNIVERSITIES ACCEPTING JUPEB:
The certificate of JUPEB is currently accepted in most federal, state and private institutions in the country and the federal government through the different educational agencies see JUPEB an examining body for both Ordinary and Advanced Level Examinations
